Tec de Monterrey opens its TECgpt ecosystem through AIGEN

Tec de Monterrey has announced the opening of its TECgpt artificial intelligence ecosystem to universities around the world through the Artificial Intelligence Global Education Network (AIGEN).

“(With AIGEN), our purpose is to encourage collaboration between education institutions and to create a more inclusive ecosystem that fosters contributions from our brightest talents,” explained Carles Abarca, Vice President of Digital Transformation.

According to Abarca, AIGEN emerged in part as a response to some of the major concerns around generative AI ecosystems, such as privacy, security, ethical considerations, and care for academic integrity.

The announcement was made at the IFE Conference, entitled “Driving the Future of Education with Innovation and Technology,” which took place between January 28 and 30 at the Monterrey campus.

According to Michael Fung, Director of the Institute for the Future of Education, this initiative is the IFE’s contribution to increasing and facilitating the use of generative AI, as well as providing advice about the ethical and responsible use of AI.

AIGEN

AIGEN is a community designed to support the use of AI in universities by facilitating the adoption of AI tools and platforms, Fung said.

“Think of AIGEN as a network of universities with a shared interest in promoting and adopting AI. It’s not about setting standards, but about sharing, creating, and recommending best practices for its use,” explained Fung.

The network, led by the Institute for the Future of Education’s Living Lab & Data Hub, will work in three key areas:

- Software

Exploring the use of commercial and open-source AI tools for education.

- Teaching and Learning

Establishing guidelines for the ethical and responsible use of AI, for training purposes, and for redesigning syllabuses to prepare students for the future of work.

- Research

Collecting usage data, evaluating impact, developing learning materials, and providing feedback to improve AI adoption.

Fung explained that AIGEN will carry out a pilot program in 10 universities that will provide access to a platform with characteristics similar to those of TECgpt.

The initiative will involve 30 teachers from each institution, collecting their experiences and results over a period of 3 to 4 months. The findings will be presented at IFE Conference 2026.

• National Autonomous University of Mexico
• University of Guadalajara
• Pontifical Catholic University of Chile
• University of Cuenca
• Austral University
• Autonomous University of Madrid
