The Tec de Monterrey offices in Nuevo Sur, in the city of Monterrey, have taken the ‘Obras’ magazine Work of the Year award in the Corporate Interiors category.
Designed in Google style, these offices promote collaborative spaces and experiential use, and even boast recreational areas for the benefit of institutional collaborators.
A panel of expert architects decided to award the prize to the Tec over all other finalists.
WHY THE AWARD?
For the panel, the Tec offices in Nuevo Sur are “are an example of what can be done, architecturally, with collaborative spaces.”
The magazine went on to say, “the choice of furniture, finishes and interactive spaces have made this space a point of reference.”
“They are an example of what can be done, architecturally, with collaborative spaces.”
Hernán García, Tec Vice-President of Talent and Culture, explained the concept behind these spaces:
“We wanted to make offices that people wouldn’t have to be in, but would want to be in. A place that’s a pleasure to visit and that encourages collaborative work,” he said.
“What’s more, they’re flexible spaces that can also be used by collaborators, for example, on weekends for personal and family reasons and, at the same time, are highly efficient for the institution.
PEOPLE-FOCUSED OFFICES
For Elsa Romero, Tec director of spaces for teachers and collaborators, in addition to empowering human talent, the offices reveal the institution’s passion for innovation.
“They’re an example of our disruptive thinking and our desire to break paradigms, always putting our teachers and collaborators first by creating extraordinary experiences for them.”
These offices, which are home to 1,400 collaborators, were created with a philosophy of open, flexible, people-centered spaces.
They are open (no walls or private offices), brightly painted, recreational and without permanently assigned workstations.
In addition to fully equipped meeting rooms, there are also spaces to play table tennis, mini golf and foosball. Users can take their children to the special Kids Zone, bring in their pet dog, play guitar or take a siesta in the “nap room”.
It’s also possible to meditate in the “Punto Blanco” reflection room and enjoy free snack islands on all eight floors and a terrace for socializing with a free Heineken bar.
THE AWARD
Every year, the Obras magazine, published by Grupo Expansión, asks its readers and the country’s architectural community to nominate architectural projects.
This year, the panel that chose the winners was made up of:
- Julian Terminel, manager of the Mexican Corporate Interior Design Association.
- Joaquín Zorrilla, Interior Design Director at Jones Lang Lasalle, the global real estate services firm
- Andrés Balcazar, founding partner of the CEPADD firm.
These Tec offices, located in the south of Monterrey, were designed by Oxígeno Arquitectura.
